# Card Updated

> Handle card status and detail changes with the card.updated webhook.

This event is sent when a card's details or status change. The event type is `card.updated`.

`data.object` is the card as it is after the change.

## USD card verification

A new USD virtual card can be created with status `pending` while the card partner verifies the customer (KYC). You receive `card.updated` with the result:

| Case | `status` | What else changes |
| - | - | - |
| Verification passed | `active` | The card details (`maskedPan`, `last4`, `expiryMonth`, `expiryYear`) are filled in. The card can now be used and funded. |
| Verification still in progress | `pending` | Nothing else. Wait for the next `card.updated`. |
| Verification failed or the card was canceled | `canceled` | `cancellationReason` explains why when a reason is provided. |

A canceled card can't be used, funded or reactivated. When a card fails verification, fix the customer's details using `cancellationReason` (see [USD card requirements](/reference/customers.md)), then create a new card.
